Can I use the move timer mode on a DGT2010, DGT XL or DGT3000?

The DGT XL cannot be set to move timer mode.

The DGT2010 and the DGT3000 do not have move timer as a pre-set option but can be set in move timer mode with a simple work-around using the Byo-Yomi timing option.

For the DGT2010 this is done as follows:

  • Select option 28 and press ENTER.
  • Accept all zeros by pressing ENTER (10 times) until you see the number 1 in the right hand display.
  • Set the desired time per move in the left hand display (the maximum move time is 9 min and 59 sec).
  • For a regular move timer set the number in the right-hand display to 1.

An interesting variation on the move timer option arises if the number 1 on the right hand display is changed allowing the players to set the move time in different stages.

For example:

Set the move time to 1 minute and select the number 2 in the last step instead of 1. The clock will now start with 2 minutes on the clock for each player. If a player always uses less than 1 minute per move, the clock continues to return to 2 minutes after each move. If a player uses more than 1 minute for a certain move, the clock will jump back to 1 minute and keep doing so until this player reaches zero. The players can agree before the game whether this player has lost the game or if he or she can continue the game with another minute per move.

For the DGT3000 move timer can be set as follows:

  • Select one of the manual settings options 26-30 and press ENTER.
  • Select BYO and press ENTER.
  • Set the required time per move and press ENTER.
  • On the next display set MOMENTS at 01.
